The China Intellectual Property Summer Institute at Tsinghua University School of Law, Beijing which started in 2002, is a natural extension of the Intellectual Property Summer Institute which has been held at Pierce Law every summer since 1987.

Tsinghua University, the premier institution of science and technology in China, established its School of Law in 1999 in a new facility at the center of the Tsinghua campus in northwest Beijing, the site of the former Imperial Gardens of the Qing dynasty princes. The location is very convenient to Beijing International Airport.

Who Should Attend

China The Pierce-Tsinghua study abroad attracts law students (both JD and LLM), and practicing attorneys from the United States and a number of foreign jurisdictions.

The curriculum is designed to introduce major themes and issues in intellectual property law and practice in China and their relationships to international trade, and to provide a deeper understanding of the dynamic changes taking place in China's information economy.

The China Experience

Far more than just the classroom experience, the China experience includes opportunities to:

  • Meet and interact with law students from Tsinghua University
  • To learn how China's history has affected its self-image and its place in the modern world
  • To better understand China's attitudes toward the rule of law
  • To absorb and relish the rich cultural offerings that make Beijing and Xi'an such magnetic destinations for tourists and scholars alike
