Visiting Scholars Program are Global Experts Using Extraordinary Resources: The Pierce Advantage
The Pierce Law Visiting Scholar Program (VSP) brings scholars, government officials, and non-government officials to Pierce Law for a period of up to one year to study, research special projects or papers, work with faculty, attend limited classes, and generally avail themselves of the academic substance and social interaction inherent in our programs.

- Adejoke Oyewunmi - Mrs Oyewunmi is a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, as well as a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Commercial and Industrial Law, Faculty of Law, University of Lagos. She was formerly the Sub-Dean of the Faculty of Law, University of Lagos . Between January and December 2000, she was a World Intellectual Property (WIPO) Fellow at the Franklin Pierce Law Centre, Concord , New Hampshire USA , where she obtained a Masters Degree in Intellectual Property Law (LLM IP). She also holds an Inter-Departmental Masters Degree (LLM) of the University of Lagos (1991), and a Bachelor of Laws Degree (LLB) of the Obafemi Awolowo University , Ile- Ife , Nigeria (1988). She was called to the Nigerian Bar in December 1989. In the course of her teaching and research experience, she has published papers in the areas of intellectual property, labour law and other commercial and industrial law subjects.

Would you Like to Be a Visiting IP Scholar?
The Pierce Law Distinguished Visiting Scholar Program (DVSP) brings scholars, government officials, and non-government officials to Pierce Law for a period of up to one year to study, research special projects or papers, work with faculty, attend limited classes, and generally avail themselves of the academic substance and social interaction inherent in our programs. In order to determine whether we have the optimum information and human resource capacity to serve your needs, we require a detailed description of your proposal for your time at Pierce Law.
First: we want to know about you and your background. Please describe your background and your current position in government, academia or non-governmental organization. A current copy of your full CV is required and can be referenced to meet this requirement. Also required is a copy of your transcripts from both your undergraduate and graduate level institutions you attended.
Second: we need to know in detail the subject of your research and your area of interest including the goal of the visit fully explained. Please describe the purpose of your research. Please describe the work product that is required or desired as a result of your proposal to be a visiting scholar at Pierce Law. Please describe any report, article, book, etc. that you anticipate will be generated and the intended audience for such a work. A copy of any appointment letter, grant requirements, etc. would assist us in understanding your needs.
Third: please describe the primary and secondary sources of law that you anticipate needing for your research. Please detail any interdisciplinary or statistical nature of your research and any information resources you anticipate needing while at Pierce Law. Please provide any projected research plan you have to meet your goal. This enables the Office of the Intellectual Property Librarian determine our capacity to meet your needs. We are able to work with your plan to determine what other human, institutional and informational approached could be part of your research plan.
Fourth: we need to know the duration of your visit with a proposed start and ending date. This allows us to analyze the commitment of our resources required to help you meet your goal while at Pierce Law.
The Associate Dean, Director of Graduate Programs, appropriate program Chair and Intellectual Property Librarian will determine whether your proposal supports your application to be approved as an appropriate distinguished visiting scholar. Once we receive your proposal, if approved, you should receive a reply (a Formal Invitation Letter) within thirty days.
Once the Director of Graduate Programs determines we have all the necessary information, the Director will seek an IP faculty mentor willing to work with the VS if they should need assistance. Normally we try to find someone familiar with the expressed area of interest.
Along with the Invitation Letter, you will also receive the following documents: Financial Supplement Form, DS-2019 Information Form and Medical Insurance Form. You will be given information on program fees and the estimated cost of living in New Hampshire for the duration of your stay.
Once the Financial Supplement Form (along with supporting documents), DS-2019 Information Form and Medical Insurance Form are returned to Pierce Law, the Director of Graduate Programs will then complete the necessary documents and issue you a DS-2019 document, allowing you to apply for the J-1 Visitor Visa for entry into the United States for you and your accompanying family members. Additional information on housing, visa procedures, and our law school community will follow.
