American Bar Association (ABA) Section of Science and Technology Law -- Law Student Writing Contest
The ABA Section of Science & Technology Law is pleased to present it's Annual Law Student Writing Contest. The contest is designed to encourage law students to write on subjects related to science and technology law and encourage a cutting edge view or innovative take on the topic.
American Intellectual Property Law Association Robert C. Watson Writing Award
The AIPLA awards the Robert C. Watson Writing Award to a law student who writes about a recent development in Intellectual Property Law.
The winner will receive the award in a ceremony in Washington, D.C.
American Intellectual Property Law Association Publication Staff Competition
The AIPLA Quarterly Journal selects its Publication Staff through a competition held each year in the spring. Students who have two full academic years remaining in an ABA-accredited law school, e.g. first-year full-time J.D. candidates or second-year part-time J.D. candidates, are eligible to compete. The Publication Staff's responsibilities are similar to that of members on other student-run journals and are coordinated by several student editors, selected each year from among the first-year Publication Staff.
American Intellectual Property Law Association Fellows Award
Judges will consider the merit of the article as a contribution to the knowledge respecting intellectual property and the extent to which it relates to the assigned topic and displays original and creative thought or information not previously written or published by the author. To be eligible for consideration, the article must have been written solely by a current AIPLA Student member in full time attendance at a law school (day or evening) for at least one semester or equivalent during the term of the completion.

American Intellectual Property Law Association's Giles Sutherland Rich Moot Court Competition involves various law school teams competing on a regional basis followed by a national competition among the top two teams from each region on topics relating to intellectual property.

Federal Circuit Bar Association George Hutchinson Writing Competition
The Federal Circuit Bar Association is pleased to announce the George Hutchinson Writing Competition, named in honor of the First Chief Clerk of the Federal Circuit Court of Appeals. Entries to the contest may discuss any topic that lies within the procedure, substance, or scope of the jurisdiction of the Federal Circuit Court of Appeals. Grammy Foundation Entertainment Law Initiative Essay Competition
ELI is designed to forge a connection between the Recording Academy's creative and technical constituency and the legal community. ELI promotes discussion and debate on the most compelling legal issues facing the music industry today. The initiative also promotes future careers in entertainment law by seeking out the nation's top law students and giving them invaluable networking and educational opportunities.
ELI is composed of three major elements: a national legal writing contest, a seminar series held at nationally prominent law schools, and a high profile scholarship luncheon held during GRAMMY week, which is attended by music attorneys, executives, and law students. The contest challenges students to identify and research a compelling legal issue confronting the music industry and propose a resolution. A national panel of legal experts will judge the papers, in a blind process, and select the five finalists.

International Technology Law Association
The International Technology Law Association, Inc. is proud to announce the dedicated of The Mark L. Gordon Memorial Technology Law Writing Award. The award, administered by ITechLaw, pays tribute to the significant contribution Mark made to the association as one of its past presidents and to the education of young lawyers. Law students are eligible to submit an original research paper or article on a tech law topic. The best paper will be selected by ITechLaw with the author receiving recognition and publication.
International Trademark Association Saul Lefkowitz Moot Court Competition
The Saul Lefkowitz Moot Court Competition, organized by INTA, has been presenting an annual competition on trademark and unfair competition law for United States law students for the last 17 years. The objective of the competition is to introduce law students to important issues arising in United States trademark and unfair competition law. Law students who participate in the competition have the opportunity to develop their brief writing and oral advocacy skills in a mock courtroom experience.
International Trademark Association Ladas Memorial Award
This writing competition was established in tribute to the distinguished practitioner and author Stephen P. Ladas. Presented annually in two author categories, Students and Professionals, the Award is given to the best paper on the subject of trademark law or a matter that directly relates to or affects trademarks.
NYIPLA William C. Conner Intellectual Property Writing Competition
The NYIPLA offers a first and second prize for the best student submission on the topic of patents, trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets, unfair trade practices, or antitrust.
New York State Bar Association Intellectual Property Section

Richmond Journal of Law & Technology Biennial Writing Competition
Along with LexisNexis, Westlaw and FairWinds Partners LLC, we are proud to announce the fourth Richmond Journal of Law & Technology Biennial Writing Competition. This national competition is open to all full-time law students and will provide a forum for exploring cutting-edge issues applicable to areas in which technology and the law intersect. Students may write on any law and technology topic, including, but not limited to, biotechnology, intellectual property, patent and trademark, and the Internet.
Topics may include patents, copyrights, trademarks, trade secrets, biotechnology, telecommunications, technology licensing, venture capital, antitrust, e-commerce, computer law, cyberspace law, privacy, and any other current topic in high technology law.
The Intellectual Property Section of the State Bar of California is pleased to announce its Annual Competition for Outstanding Student Papers in the Area of Intellectual Property. This competition is open only to law students who are permanent residents of California or are full-time students at a California law school.
Telecommunications Policy Research Conference Prizes for Graduate or Law Students
TPRC is an annual conference on communication, information, and internet policy that convenes international and interdisciplinary practitioners and researchers from academia, industry, government, and nonprofit organizations together with policy makers. The purpose of the conference is to acquaint policymakers with the best of recent research and to familiarize researchers with the knowledge requirements of policymakers and industry. The conference will consist of papers selected from reviewed, submitted abstracts, student posters, and selected panel submissions.
TPRC is now soliciting abstracts of papers, student papers, panel proposals, and student posters for presentation at the conference. Proposals should be based on current theoretical or empirical research relevant to communication and information policy, and may be from any disciplinary perspective. TPRC seeks submissions of disciplinary, comparative, multidisciplinary or interdisciplinary excellence.
Virginia State Bar Intellectual Property Section
The Intellectual Property Law Student Writing Competition seeks to promote academic debate and the dissemination of ideas and scholarly writing in the field of intellectual property. The competition is sponsored by the Intellectual Property Section of the Virginia State Bar, and is open to all current students in good standing at any Virginia law school, or residents of Virginia (with proof of residency) who are current students in good standing at a law school outside the state.
Yale Information Society Project
The Information Society Project at Yale Law School (ISP) and the International Journal of Communications Law and Policy (IJCLP) have announced their fifth interdisciplinary writing competition and call for papers in conjunction with the third Access to Knowledge (A2K3) Conference taking place September 8-10, 2008, in Geneva, Switzerland.
Students, scholars, policy-makers, technologists, activists, and industry representatives are invited to submit papers on access to knowledge and communications law and policy for publication by the IJCLP. Submissions must be received by June 30, 2008, to be considered for the A2K3 writing competition.
