Student tryouts

The following information is provided for students who are interested in trying out for a moot court competition within the 2008-2009 academic year.

August 1, 2008

  • The "FPLC Moot Court – 2008-2009" TWEN site opens
    • Students can begin uploading the required documents

August 8, 2008

  • Tryout Problem will be RELEASED on TWEN (see The Problem below)
  • DUE: Writing Sample should be uploaded to the assignment drop box by 6:00 pm
    • Incoming 2Ls should submit their Summary Judgment Motion and incoming 3Ls should submit their Appellate Brief by uploading it to the assignment drop box
      • Students can make edits to your writing sample, but any edits should be largely writing mechanics/style based
  • DUE: 1-2 pg Statement of Interest should be uploaded to the assignment drop box by 6:00 pm
  • DUE: Preference Sheet should be uploaded to the assignment drop box by 6:00 pm
    • Preference Sheet is available under the forms tab on the TWEN site

August 18, 2008

  • DUE: Student (your) availability on Monday, August 25, Tuesday, August 26 and Wednesday, August 27 between 5:00 pm and 8:00 pm for tryouts

August 25, 2008

  • DUE: Legal Skills Grade Release Form must be submitted to the Registrar by 3:00 p.m.
    • Release Form is available under the forms tab on the TWEN site

The Problem

All students try out for Moot Court using the same fact pattern. You can expect the following:

  • Release: August 8, 2008 on TWEN

    • Closed Universe Problem
      • A Motion for Summary Judgment
      • Includes:
        • A Memorandum Opinion
        • 3 relevant cases
    • Prepare a 10 minute oral argument
      • Students do not have to write a motion
