Scholarships for Entering Students
The Rapee Scholarship
Friends and family of Doris Rapee established this scholarship which provides $1,500 each year to the entering student who shows creativity and innovation in the area of technology. Application for the scholarship may be made upon acceptance to Franklin Pierce Law Center and will be awarded to the student upon matriculation.
Robert B. Benson Scholarship
Named in honor of the former chair of the Board of Trustees of Franklin Pierce Law Center, this scholarship provides $1,500 to the entering student who has demonstrated excellence in engineering or science. Application for the scholarship may be made upon acceptance to Franklin Pierce Law Center and will be awarded to the student upon matriculation.
Scholarships for 2nd and 3rd Year Students
Bruce E. Friedman Scholarship
Named after a professor and former Director of the Law Clinics, the award, $1,000 annually, is based on community and public service participation, and commitment of a student while attending Franklin Pierce Law Center. Students from the first and second year classes may apply. Application deadline: June 15. Awarded the following fall.
Douglas J. Wood Chairman's Scholarship
These scholarships are funded from a donation by 1976 alumnus Douglas J. Wood through a gift he received for distinguished service to a client. Wood Scholars are selected from second- and third-year students who did not receive Dean's Merit Scholarships upon matriculation and who have demonstrated academic excellence, keen writing ability and service to the law school.
Simpson Scholarship
This $1,000 scholarship, awarded annually, is named in honor of Donald Simpson, a vital member of the faculty of Pierce Law in its early years and former dean of Suffolk University School of Law. Students from the first and second year classes may apply. The award is based upon excellence in Torts, performance as a student, and faculty recommendation. Application deadline: June 15. Awarded the following fall.
Slutsky Scholarship
David Slutsky, a graduate of the Class of 1976, instituted a scholarship in memory of his family. The scholarship, $1,000, is awarded every other year. Students from the first and second year classes may apply. The award is based upon academic excellence, individualism, cooperation and mutual respect. Application deadline: June 15 of even numbered years. Awarded the following fall.
Yacos Prize
The Yacos Prize is a national award honoring the memory of Judge James E. Yacos, former chief judge of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in New Hampshire. It is awarded annually for exceptional merit in commercial or business law. It is available to all law students. The award is announced in the fall. A selection committee awards the prize at a special ceremony.
Winnie McLaughlin Women's Scholarship
Named for Agnes Winifred McLaughlin, the first woman admitted to practice law in New Hampshire, this scholarship was established by Pierce Law and the New Hampshire Women's Bar Association. It is awarded to a continuing woman student entering the second year at Pierce Law who has demonstrated a commitment to community service focused on advancing women in society, and demonstrated academic achievment. The scholarship is for $5,000 toward tuition. Application deadline: May 23.
